Looking for the best time for a wedding photoshoot in Cappadocia? In this article we lay out exactly which month and which time of day you should choose. If you'd like to compare the general pros and cons of each season, take a look at our Best Season for a Cappadocia Photoshoot article as well.
The Best Months
First choice: September and October
The weather is perfect (20-25°C), autumn colors are stunning, and tourist crowds have thinned out. Balloon flights are regular.
Second choice: April and May
Spring flowers, green valleys, comfortable weather. Beautiful, but can have windy days.
Third choice: June and November
June starts out warm but isn't unbearable yet. November is still nice, but balloon flights can decrease.
To avoid: Mid-July to mid-August
Shooting outdoors in 35°C+ heat is very tough. If you must shoot during this period, it absolutely should be early morning or late evening.
Which Month Based on Your Priority?
| Your Priority | Recommended Month |
|---|---|
| The most vivid autumn colors | September–October |
| Green valleys in full bloom | April–May |
| Fewest crowds and best prices | January–February |
| Highest chance of a balloon flight | April–October |
| Snowy, unusual shots | December–February (higher cancellation risk) |
The Best Times of Day
Sunrise (5:00–7:00 AM)
A must if you want balloon photos. The light is soft and warm. A favorite for most couples. The exact time shifts with the month: around 5:00–5:30 AM in summer, closer to 7:00 AM in winter.
Sunset (5:00–7:30 PM)
The golden hour. Dramatic shadows, warm colors. Ideal to start 1-1.5 hours before sunset. In winter, sunset is around 5:00 PM; in summer it can stretch to 7:30 PM.
Blue Hour (20-30 minutes after sunset)
The sky turns shades of blue and purple. Very short, but produces striking frames.
When Do the Balloons Fly?
Balloons fly every morning at sunrise (weather permitting). The most reliable period is April–November. Cancellation rates are higher in winter — if you're planning a shoot during this period, we recommend also considering alternative shots without balloons.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book?
For popular months like September-October, 3-4 months ahead is generally enough; for the low season (winter), 3-6 weeks ahead usually works. If you have a fixed date, we recommend planning early.
If the weather turns bad, is the shoot cancelled?
No — we flexibly reschedule the shoot date or time based on the weather. Only if the balloon flight itself is cancelled do we proceed with alternative locations and times.
How many hours does a shoot take and how much does it cost?
These are two separate topics — for duration, see our How Many Hours Does It Take? article, and for current price ranges, see our 2025 Prices article.
