Do the Balloons Fly Every Day in Cappadocia?

One of the most common questions: "Will the balloons fly on my shoot day?" Here's everything you need to know.

How Often Do the Balloons Fly?

Balloons fly on roughly 250 days a year in Cappadocia. That's a fairly high rate, but there's no 100% guarantee.

Flight Probability by Month

MonthFlight Probability
April–October80–90%
November–March50–70%

Why Do Flights Get Cancelled?

1. Wind: The most common reason. High wind prevents a safe flight

2. Rain/snow: Cancelled in heavy precipitation

3. Fog: When visibility is insufficient

4. Technical reasons: Rare, but possible

Important: The cancellation decision is made around 4:00–5:00 AM. You can't know in advance.

What Happens If the Balloons Don't Fly?

Plan B

Even without balloons, Cappadocia still offers stunning photos. Fairy chimneys, valleys, and cave hotels are beautiful independent of the balloons.

An Extra Day

If possible, add 1 backup day to your schedule. If the balloons don't fly on day one, we can shoot on day two.

Fairylight Studio's Approach

If we learn a day ahead that balloon flights will be cancelled, we don't cancel your shoot — we simply move it to that same day's sunset or the next morning's sunrise. If a balloon flight gets cancelled last-minute on your organization day, your event still goes ahead as planned, and your balloon-backdrop shots are completed with professional retouching (Photoshop). This way, balloon uncertainty never puts your shoot at risk.

Tips for a Balloon Shoot

  • Stay 2-3 days: Increases your chances of catching a balloon flight
  • Stay flexible: We can adjust your shoot day based on the balloon schedule
  • Get up early: Balloons fly at sunrise, i.e. 5:00-6:00 AM
  • Location matters: Göreme's panoramic points give the best balloon views

Don't worry — we track the weather constantly and present you with the best plan.
